Lotus Aherne announced as co-chair of Women in Rail Scotland

Lotus Aherne, Business Development Manager for Tony Gee, based in Glasgow, has stepped into the role of co-chair of Women in Rail Scotland.

Joining Lotus as co-chair of the steering group is Johannah Randall, Station Specialist at WCPD and Head of Engagement at the Rail Innovation Group. Both Lotus and Johannah have taken over from Lorna Gibson, who stepped down at the end of September 2025.

Lotus has been on the steering group for the last two years whilst also bringing a wealth of experience from the rail sector which she has worked in for the last six. She said: “It’s a great honour to be named as co-chair of Women in Rail Scotland. We have a track record of delivering impactful and meaningful events for our members, which is something Johannah and I are keen to ensure that we remain focused on.”

Women in Rail was created to improve diversity in the UK rail industry through providing networking opportunities and support for all women within the sector. Their business plan for 2025-2027 outlines how the rail sector can become a more diverse and inclusive sector in the industry.

Lotus will be attending her first event as Co-Chair at the Women in Rail Scotland Autumn Lunch on 3rd October. The event focuses on the theme of “Women in Rail: Are we being ambitious enough?”, where they are welcoming guest speaker Alex Hynes, Director General, Rail Services for the Department for Transport, United Kingdom.
