Social Impact

Our ‘We Design Once’ principle perfectly encapsulates the balance between the needs of industry, society and environment. It is something we are deeply passionate about and is embedded in all that we do.

We aim to support the communities where we live and work by reducing inequality, improving wellbeing, and leaving behind a positive legacy. Across everything we do — from our projects to our operations, we apply our experience and expertise to deliver meaningful social outcomes. These outcomes are shaped around the following key themes:

Employment and Skills

We have an incredible Early Careers program supporting students, graduates and apprentices to realise their future career potential. Our programmes include:

— Summer Student Placements

— Year in Industry Student Placements

— Apprenticeships (Country Specific)

— Graduate Scheme

Over 10% of our work force fall into the Early Careers category and several of our senior leaders started out with Tony Gee as students. We are members of the ICE and IstructE and we support our colleagues to develop their chartership.

We have Ambassadors promoting careers in engineering through work experience programmes, STEM and Shaking Table workshops, employability support and careers fairs.

Communities

We understand the importance of supporting our local communities and we continue to be engaged and actively involved in the communities where we have our offices and where we deliver our projects.

This also involves working with charities to discuss what their needs are and how we can support them. A few charities we’ve supported include QEF, Beatson, Hong Kong Mind, and RedR.

Bridges to Prosperity is a scheme which provides vital infrastructure across Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Since 2016, Tony Gee have supported Bridges to Prosperity with Knights Brown and have sent 60 volunteers to help construct 6 bridges, connecting over 27,000 people.

Local Business and Economy

Supporting local businesses and the economy is crucial for fostering community growth and resilience. By prioritising local suppliers and services, we ensure that money circulates within the community, creating jobs and boosting local incomes.

In addition to supporting local businesses, we are committed to maintaining ethical supply chains – This means trying to ensure that products and services are sourced responsibly, with fair labour practices and environmentally sustainable methods, reinforcing our commitment to a just and sustainable economy.

Environment

We prioritise sustainable practices across all operations. This includes reducing waste, conserving energy, and minimising our carbon footprint. By implementing green technologies and promoting eco-friendly behaviours, we ensure that our activities have a positive impact on the environment.

We engage with local communities, schools and universities to promote environmental awareness and action. This includes supporting local environmental initiatives like tree planting and biodiversity volunteering, organising clean-up events, and education, fostering a collective effort towards environmental stewardship.

Our sustainability strategy is designed to integrate environmental considerations into every aspect of our operations, ensuring long-term ecological balance and resilience.
