Bath, UK

Project synopsis

Track and platform alignment design, up to two metres laterally from their existing positions, at Bath Spa Station; a designated world heritage site.

Contractor

Hochtief

End client

Network Rail

Tony Gee was engaged by Hochtief to provide design of the track and platform realignments up to two metres laterally from their existing positions. The primary reason for these alterations is to accommodate the new Intercity Express Trains being introduced on service from London Paddington to Swansea.

The design of the alignments had to take into account the sensitive nature of the station being a world Heritage site. There several constraints to consider that required close
liaison/ co-ordination with Architects, Civils, Geotechnical, Track drainage, Signalling, Overhead line electrification, the Train Operating Company GWR, Network Buildings RAM, Track RAM and Gauging Engineer.

The track and platform design was taken from the optioneering stage through to implementation including construction support.
