Civil, structural and geotechnical design services for the Afton Wind Farm scheme which consists of 27 Wind Turbine Generators

Tony Gee was appointed as Engineering Consultant for the scheme which completed construction in late 2017. Each of the 27 Wind Turbine Generators on the site have a maximum capacity of up to 2.75MW.

Appointed by Farrans as Engineering Consultant for the scheme, Tony Gee worked with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that all risks to the existing 16″ and 18″ water mains were mitigated, and worked towards ensuring all design proposals complied with the Distribution Operation & Maintenance Strategy (DOMS) which is the acceptance procedure adopted by Scottish Water.

Tony Gee provided a wide scope of civil, structural and geotechnical design services which included the following:

  • Onsite access tracks (11km)
  • Public road improvements from New Cumnock to the site boundary
  • 27 No. WTG hard standing and associated turning heads earthworks design
  • Structural and architectural works (including surface water drainage, below ground foul water drainage, compound earthworks and layout) for 1No. Substation and 1No. metering building
  • 3No. box culvert designs on the spine road of Afton road into the site
  • Site formation inspections and pre-pour inspections

Tony Gee was also responsible for providing geotechnical support, GI scoping and site inspections for crane hard standings and infrastructure.
