Our Route to Net Zero UK

Tony Gee has set out a clear commitment to achieving net zero operational carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier. This target includes an ambitious goal of reducing emissions by over 45% compared to our 2023 re-baseline by 2030.

Between 2018 and 2023, Tony Gee successfully reduced market-based Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 80%, demonstrating measurable progress towards its sustainability objectives as can be seen in the figure below.

Emissions from 2023 Onwards and Rebaselining

Following the significant reductions achieved by 2023 compared with the 2018 baseline, Tony Gee has initiated a rebaselining process, which is undertaken done every five years, to reflect the company’s current structure, operational footprint, and data maturity. This updated baseline accounts for expanded emissions categories and provides a more accurate foundation for future reduction targets. The rebaselining ensures transparency and continuous improvement as Tony Gee advances towards its net zero goal.

Pledges and Commitments

Tony Gee’s sustainability efforts are underpinned by a number of recognised pledges and commitments, including:

  • Pledge to Net Zero – Aligning organisational objectives with the UK’s broader net zero targets
  • AGS Sustainability Charter – Supporting the Association for Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists’ principles of sustainable practice within engineering
  • Carbon Neutral Certification – Achieving external verification of carbon neutrality for operational emissions, underscoring Tony Gee’s commitment to environmental stewardship

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Tony Gee monitors progress against our Sustainability Strategy through several key performance indicators, including:

  • Reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions (market-based and location-based)
  • Decrease in emissions intensity per employee and per £M turnover
  • Increase in the percentage of green electricity across all offices
  • Uptake of sustainable commuting schemes such as cycle-to-work and electric vehicle initiatives
  • Expansion of supplier engagement to improve Scope 3 reporting and performance

Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

Tony Gee is aligning its future decarbonisation strategy with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This ensures that our targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are in line with climate science and contribute meaningfully to limiting global temperature rise in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
